Marc Marquez Chalks Up Ninth Victory in a Row to End the First Half of 2014 MotoGP Season

LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl was the only rider on the grid who stick with the slick tires at start of the German Grand Prix on Sunday, July 13th when rain came down just moments before the start of the race. However, the German rider was not able to maintain his advantage after leading all the riders in the early laps, as it seemed that his slick tires were fitted in a hurry to his bike setup. As a result, Bradl managed to finish the race in sixteenth place. While, Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez continued his winning streak in Germany, as he registered his ninth straight victory in the 2014 MotoGP season.

With this triumph, Marc has become the first rider after 1970’s Italian rider Giacomo Agostini, who has won opening nine races during a season. Agostini has won opening 10 races during that season. However, the victory was never easy for Marquez as he pulled this one off in spite of having a difficult start. The Spanish rider had to start from the pitlane when rain started pouring down just before the start of race, but the showers were brief and the track got dried up after sometime. That forced Marquez and his teammate Dani Pedrosa to switch to their dry bikes after the last Warm Up lap and they had to make a start from the pitlane.

The two riders did not waste much time after that and quickly worked their up to snatch the lead from Bradl in order to have their own battle. During the race reigning Moto GP World Champion set fastest time in several laps and his partner, who was pursuing him, responded superbly each time. However, Pedrosa’s slight mistake allowed Marquez to win the race little more comfortably, as he crossed the chequered flag one and a half seconds before Dani. Nevertheless, seventh podium of the 2014 season was a satisfying result for Pedrosa, as he marked his third 1-2 result for Repsol Honda.

Reflecting on the race, Pedrosa said that it was really difficult for them in turn 1 with the slick tires, but they managed to do a good job in the pitlane. Adding to it he said that he tried his best to reach close to Marc but their gap always remained at 0.5 and 0.6. Dani said that their rhythm were quite similar as he was neither gaining and nor loosing, so over all he is happy with the result.

On the other hand, winner of the ninth round of 2014 MotoGP, Marquez said about the race that initially it looked pretty much like Assen but in the last phase everyone came in the pitlane as they all knew that the track has dried up. On this occasion, Marc admitted that at the start he had concerns regarding the back of the track, but in the end he decided to cop his teammate (Pedrosa) and Valentino Rossi, who are his main rivals.

In contrast to Dani, Marquez said that the beginning of the race was nice as he was able to surpass several riders and then he had a good fight with Pedrosa. Overall, he was pretty happy to win the race and the 21-year rider said that now he can relax a bit.

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Jorge Lorenzo and Rossi end up securing third and fourth place in the race, Whereas, Andrea Iannone of Ducati Team finished fifth at the Sachsenring. The first half was undoubtedly a thriller, as fans get to see some exciting races. Now, all eyes are looking forward to see these top MotoGP riders in action once again, when the second half of the season will begin.
