Cal Crutchlow Goes Under Knife after Suffering from Arm Pump Syndrome

Just as the first half of 2014 MotoGP World Championship came to end British rider Cal Crutchlow decided to go under the knife. According to the latest update the Ducati Team rider had a successful operation on both of his arms on Tuesday, July 15th at the Universitario Quiron Dexeus Hospital in Barcelona. The surgery was conducted as Crutchlowwas dealing with arm pump syndrome on both forearms for quite some time. The surgical operation was conducted by specialist doctor Xavier Mir. The doctor said after the operation that necessity of the surgical treatment on right arm was acknowledged back in May this year after CT scans.

However, it was decided that they should wait till the break in the Moto GP season in order to conduct the surgery, said the doctor Xavier. The specialist doctor also revealed on this occasion that they decided to operate the left forearm on this Tuesday. It was also brought to the light that several incisions were made on the right arm of Cal in order to release the pressure on muscle. At the same time, ‘mesenchymal cells’ were also implanted in his arm so formation of the liquid can be prevented in the future. Crutchlow will be released from the hospital today (Wednesday, July 16th) after spending a night at the facility.

After which Crutchlow will fly back to his home country England, where he will take rest. Until he gets fit to start practice for the second half of the 2014 MotoGP season that will take place at the start of next month (August). This was not the first time that Cal has received a surgical treatment on both his arms after suffering from arm pump syndrome. The English rider had already received similar treatments on his right arm on three occasions and once on his left arm. Now it remains to be seen whether the 28-year old will be able to fully recover from the double surgery before the 10th round of MotoGP in Indianapolis.

Thus far, Crutchlow’s performance during this season of Grand Prix was too impressive by any means, as Ducati’s rider was able to gain just 28 points for its team. That has given him 14th position in the overall standings. This means that Cal have to do a lot of hard work besides recovering from the double surgery. Otherwise, it will not possible for him to end up among the top ten riders at the end of the season.
